CUTS International Tips Govt
QFM Radio, October 14, 2009

The Consumer Unit and Trust Society (CUTS) International has urged government to propose beneficial issues in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) package ahead of a Trade Ministers conference.

Trade ministers from Least Developed Countries are meeting in Tanzania from 14 to 16 October, 2009, ahead of the World trade organisation Trade Ministers Conference to be held in Geneva, Switzerland from November 30 to December 2, 2009.

CUTS International Centre Coordinator Angela Mulenga in a statement released to QFM says government should propose beneficial issues in the LDC package which will be discussed in preparation for the World trade organisation summit.

Mrs Mulenga says the issues should include a focus on duty-free and quota free market access and Rules of Origin.

She says at the meeting Zambia should also strategize on the issues to propose during the Ministerial conference, such as agriculture, trade facilitation, and trade related aspects of intellectual property (TRIPS), aid for trade and trade and environment.

She says if these measures are implemented, LDCs like Zambia will enhance their participation in the international trade regime and reap the maximum benefits that it holds, hence contributing to the improvements of social services of its citizens.

'CUTS is the acronym for Consumer Unity and Trust Society'
