20 Clusters Join Handloom Clusters Expo in
Capital

THE office of the Development Commissioner
for Handlooms, Ministry of Textile is organising Handloom Clusters Expo
at Handloom Pavilion, Pragati Maidan here from December 21 to 28, 2009.
For the first time the ministry is celebrating 'Handloom Week' from
December 21 to 27, 2009. During this period handloom expos, fashion
shows, dyeing-cum-design workshops, buyers- sellers meets health camps
etc are being organised in the different parts of the country to create
awareness and to promote handlooms in the interest of handloom weavers
and also to protect the heritage of the country.
Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India Ahmedabad has been
functioning as national resource agency for development of 20 clusters .
As part of the 'Handloom Week' the Handloom Clusters Expo is being
organised to showcase the first and exclusive handloom products
developed by 20 handloom clusters taken up in 2006--07 under the
integrated handloom cluster development scheme of the offifce of the
Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textile for their
integrated and holistic development.
Each cluster will be developed in a timeframe of 4 years at an upper
cost of Rs 2.00 crore. covering about 5,000 handloom per cluster. During
the exhibition, the handloom products ar e also available for sales.
Handloom Clusters expo is participated by the 20 handloom clusters which
are implemented by the different agencies.
The expo will display and sell handloom silk sarees,garments, shawls,
stoles, scarves, dupattas, home furnishings including bedsheets and
covers, fabrics, rugs and mats, kitchen linen, hand towels and napkins
etc.
In addition there is a Handloom Clusters Gallery which provides a
glimpse of the interventions so far in the 20 clusters under the
progamme.
The expo also lilve demonstrates weaving for handloom, cloth printing
and computer aided textile designing .
With this exhibition, it is expected to give an exposure of the clusters
of the market trend, enhance awareness to the concerned about the
cluster programme, generate demand, support marketing of the handloom
products of 20 clusters etc.
