CUTS-LONDON RESOURCE CENTRE

About the Centre
It is common practice for Western organisations to set up offices in the countries of the developing world - The Consumer Unity and Trust Society (CUTS) saw that it could both play a more influential role in global policy making, and gain access to additional sources of international funds, by reversing the trend and setting up a resource centre in London, UK.

Background:
CUTS International - London Resource Centre (LRC) was established in February 2003.  It finds itself in a highly unusual position as one of the only Southern civil society organisations with a Centre in the UK. With the mission ‘to pursue economic equity and social justice by contributing to a better understanding between Northern and Southern civil society and balanced global policy-making’, LRC proposes to bridge the gap between the developing and the developed worlds and to work actively to promote partnership and alliances with other CSOs.

At present the CUTS-LRC is still a small office, but as well as three employees, it has attracted volunteer interns excited to be working with the unique perspective CUTS-LRC is able to offer.

The main objectives of LRC are: to raise the profile of CSOs in developing countries throughout the UK and Europe, especially by assisting them to contribute to development debates; to act as a fulcrum  between Southern and Northern civil society organisations; and to facilitate research and advocacy on key issues of international trade and economics, building on the expertise of CUTS International.

The LRC provides a permanent base and contact point for networking in the UK, Europe and other developed countries with a variety of partners, including NGOs, universities, think-tanks and other research institutions, national governments, international organisations and the media. Without a physical presence of this kind, informal and regular contact with these people would be infinitely harder

If you think you might offer CUTS-LRC support in any way, or just have a query, please do not hesitate to contact our office directly.
