Market Awareness Campaign (SMAC)

CUTS-CART is actively involved in the SMAC with the
support of SEBI since May 2004. Under the first and second rounds of
the campaign, 10 workshops were conducted in various remote areas of
Rajasthan. The third round of the campaign started in August 2005 and
will continue till April 8, 2006.
The eighth workshop, in the series, was organised
at Barmer, Rajasthan, on January 28, 2006. The aim of this workshop
was to acclimatise the investors with the functioning of the securities
market, such as the basic fundamentals of investment and risk management
and their rights and responsibilities. |
Power
Sector Reforms Phase II

As a part of the activities of the Phase II of CUTS-FES
Project on 'Involvement of Consumers in Power Sector Reforms’, a series
of seven orientation workshops are to be organised in 12 identified
circles of Rajasthan, from June 18, 2005 to June 10, 2006. The eighth
workshop, in the series, was organised in Barmer, Rajasthan, on January
27, 2006.
The objective of the programme was to facilitate an
active involvement of the consumers in power sector reforms. |
Workshop
on ‘Road Safety’
Kolkata, West Bengal, India, January 14, 2006
CUTS-CRC organised a workshop on ‘Road Safety’ at
Kolkata, on January 14, 2006. Various experts on road safety, who discussed
the issue at length, attended the workshop including professors of transportation
safety – Dinesh Mohan and Geetam Tiwari from Indian Institute of Technology
(IIT) New Delhi, civil engineers, police personnel and doctors. The
workshop provided a platform for the experts to share their views on
the subject from their perspective. It was also a befitting way of observing
the Road Safety Week, which was held during January 02-08, 2006. |

Lecture on Outcomes of Hong Kong Ministerial
“WTO: Where do we go from Hong Kong?”

CUTS International in association with Harish Chandra
Mathur Rajasthan Institute of Public Administration (HCM-RIPA) organised
a public lecture by Shri G. K. Pillai, Additional Secretary, Department
of Commerce, Government of India on the outcomes of the recently concluded
6th Ministerial Conference of the WTO, held at Hong Kong, China. This
was followed by discussions initiated by former India’s negotiator
Shri B. K. Zutshi, CUTS Secretary General and Member of the official
Indian delegation to Hong Kong Shri Pradeep S Mehta and Prof. Surjeet
Singh of Institute of Development Studies, Jaipur. Shri Rakesh Hooja,
Director, HCM-RIPA chaired the meeting.
