Besides
a book with a CD, the following would be the outcomes of the project.
Trade
negotiators and trade policy officials from five South Asian
countries will be better equipped to negotiate during the
Doha Round for the benefit of the poor, with a special focus
on women, with inputs from the ground/grassroots.
The
five South Asian countries – and also the G-20 and the
mini-ministerial – will submit and release papers, non-papers
and press releases that voice recommendations for the WTO
declaration (to be adopted at the Hong Kong ministerial) that
are pro-poor, with a special focus on women.
Through
action-research (civil society’s involvement in the
process of conducting research) an informal forum of state
(trade policy officials and trade negotiators) and non-state
(NGOs, trade unions, research institutions, WTO experts, business
bodies) actors will be in place. This forum will help different
actors to interact with each other on trade-related issues.
Through
achieving the outcomes CUTS would contribute to develop
CSO’s understanding and knowledge on trade issues.
It will result in a model of involving civil society organizations
in the process of trade negotiations.
