CUTS-C-CIER is organising a three-day training seminar on competition policy and law issues under the banner of the CUTS Institute for Regulation and Competition (www.circ.in), in conjunction with an annual meeting of the International Network of Civil Society Organisations on Competition (INCSOC).

This training seminar, to be organised from June 29 to July 1, 2006, in Bangkok, aims to help develop analytical capacities to comprehend competition law related issues for relevant stakeholder groups in the Asian region, promote their understanding on compliance and procedural issues, as well as enhance the role of different stakeholder groups in order to ensure competitiveness in the markets and accelerate economic growth.

Final Review Conference of the 7Up2 Project

CUTS C-CIER is organising the Final Review Conference of its project entitled, ‘Advocacy and Capacity Building on Competition Policy and Law in Asia’ (7Up2 Project), supported by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, Switzerland (SECO), the Swiss Competition Commission (COMCO), and the Department for International Development (DFID), UK, in Bangkok, Thailand, on June 27-28, 2006.

Renowned experts and competition authority officials as well as CSOs and the private sector from all over the world will attend this conference where research findings on the competitive scenario of project countries (Vietnam, Lao PDR, Cambodia, India, Nepal and Bangladesh) would be presented in context with the linkages between competition policy and law, economic development and international integration.

Along with researchers from respective project countries, officials from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), etc, would discuss every aspect of competition policy and law in different economic settings, which include small land-locked economies, least-developed and developing economies, economies in transition, and large-emerging markets, as well as issues related to cross-border investment and regional trade agreements (RTAs).

Regional Consultation on ‘Trade Facilitation Needs Assessment in South Asia’
Kolkata, June 17, 2006

CUTS Centre for International Trade, Economics & Environment, Jaipur along with UNDP Regional Centre in Colombo is organising the regional consultation of the project ‘Trade Facilitation Needs Assessment in South Asia’ on June 17, 2006 in Kolkata. Representatives from private sector and CSO from India, Nepal and Bangladesh will be present in the consultation programme. Among others, officials from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Colombo, West Bengal state government and representatives of exporters/importers will also be present in the consultation.

The draft research paper on the project ‘Trade facilitation Needs Assessment in South Asia’ written by Pranav Kumar would be presented in the consultation. The consultation will also provide opportunities to the stakeholders from Nepal and Bangladesh and India to discuss and express their views on different issues related to the trade facilitation in South Asia. The feedback and comments obtained from the consultation would be incorporated in finalising the research paper.
