CUTS Centre for International Trade, Economics & Environment (CUTS-CITEE), Jaipur is organising the Inception Workshop of the project titled ‘Documenting advocacy practices involving local stakeholders with the process of trade and globalisation in four Indian States’ at Jaipur, Rajasthan, India, on September 09, 2006. This is under the ‘Knowledge Infrastructure with and between Counterparts (KIC)’ Project of Oxfam International steered by Oxfam Novib, The Netherlands. GRANITE partners, representatives of farmers’ association, non-governmental organisation (NGO) and government officials and researchers from Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Rajasthan will be present in the workshop. The objective of this event is to bring together people associated
with the project and discuss and finalise the draft Terms of Reference
(ToR) and questionnaires for the project implementation. The workshop
will also provide opportunities to the stakeholders to discuss and
express their views on different advocacy practices on issues related
to globalisation and trade. |
Workshop
on Anticompetitive Practices in Pharmaceuticals and Health Delivery
System CUTS CCIER is organising a knowledge dissemination workshop on “Options for Using Competition Law/Policy Tools in Dealing with Anti-competitive Practices in Pharmaceuticals and the Health Delivery System” on September 8, 2006 in New Delhi, India. Globally the drug sector has been notorious for practices thwarting the spirit of competition and regulation. The role of competition authority is very crucial in placing appropriate restraints. An important question that arises is whether the Indian authorities are well geared to do this task? In 2005-06, CUTS CCIER had conducted a study on “Options for Using Competition Law/Policy Tools in Dealing with Anti-competitive Practices in Pharmaceuticals and the Health Delivery System”, supported by the World Health Organisation. The overall objective of this project was to - identify competition concerns in the pharmaceutical sector and health delivery system; examine the scope of competition policy and law in dealing with such concerns; and suggest an implementation strategy to enhance access to medicines and enhance the efficiency of health delivery systems. CUTS CCIER plans to disseminate findings of this study through a workshop to be held on Friday, September 8, 2006 in New Delhi at the India International Centre at 1000 hours.
