Securities
Market Awareness Campaign (SMAC) CUTS Centre for Consumer Action, Research & Training (CUTS-CART) is actively involved in the Securities Market Awareness Campaign (SMAC) with the support of Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) since May 2004. Under the first and second rounds of the campaign, 10 workshops each were conducted in various remote areas of Rajasthan. The third round of the campaign, which was started in August 2005 and continue till April 08, 2006. The eighth workshop, in the series, will be organised at Barmer, Rajasthan, India, on January 28, 2006. The aim of these workshops is to acclimatise the investors with the functioning of the securities market, such as the basic fundamentals of investment and risk management and their rights and responsibilities. |

Second
Focused Training Seminar Under CUTS Centre for International Trade, Economics & Environment (CUTS-CITEE), Jaipur with an active support from Novib (Oxfam Netherlands) and NORAD (Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation), New Delhi, will organise the Second Focused Training Seminar under the GRANITE project on January 27-28, 2006 at Hotel Middleton Inn, Kolkata, West Bengal. The two-day seminar will serve a multi-fold objective inclusive of imparting skills to articulate and analyse sectoral issues (agriculture and textiles) and also to focus on evaluation of the activities under the GRANITE project in its first year of implementation (from January 2005 to December 2005), in eight selected states i.e. Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Orissa, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The seminar also aims to discuss at length the learnings gained from the Sixth WTO Ministerial held at Hong Kong in December 2005 and to share experiences from the project partnering organisations, who attended it. Beside, planning for the next phase of GRANITE project i.e. post 2006 will also be devised. The members of National Coordination Unit (NCU) of CUTS-CITEE and nodal persons and programme coordinators from all project-partnering organisations from eight states will attend the seminar. Orientation of CUTS-FES Power Sector Reforms As part of commencing the activities of the Phase II of CUTS-Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) Project on 'Involvement of Consumers in Power Sector Reforms’, daylong orientation workshops will be organised in 12 identified circles of Rajasthan, India, from June 18, 2005 to May 20, 2006. The second workshop, in the series, will be organised in Sawai Madhopur on June 18, 2005. The major objective of the programme is to facilitate an active involvement of consumers in the power sector reforms.
